How Can I Stop IE from Crashing?

When I start up IE, it opens up to my homepage and everything seems fine. If
I try to click on any links, open a different webpage, or a new window, the
program automatically closes down - with no error message.

This is the case w/ either IE6 or 7. IE6 is built into Windows XP, so
unfortunately I can't fully delete it. I have a feeling that if I was able
to fully delete it, and then reinstall a fresh version of IE6 or 7, my
problems might be solved.

I have the same problem with AIM. The program opens up fine and I can see
who's online, etc. But as soon as I click on someone's name to write a
message, the program automatically shuts down - with no error message. I've
already tried deleting and reinstalling AIM.

Anything that anyone can suggest would be great.

Thanks,

Darren

Hi,
Some possibilities:
(I would try to fix IE6 before reinstalling IE7)

Disable browser add-ons from Tools> Manage add-ons. Re-enable them one at a
time to see if one of them is causing this problem.

Clear the Temporary Internet Files and IE History.

Control Panel> Java> General> Temporary Internet Files> Delete files.
(Longshot- but it can't hurt.)

Download and run ie-rereg from

This may be a malware problem- adware, spyware, hijacker, trojan, etc.
