Austin Myers (the great god of video and PowerPoint) just posted this in
response to another person's question. The other person wanted slow motion,
but the answer mentions speeding up video as well. For the purposes of full
disclosure, it should be noted that Austin's first response was "get a slower
computer," so I'm guessing that his first response to you would be "get a
faster computer," but the real response appears below:
Ok, so I stepped in it. You ever answer someone and then later think, gee,
am I sure about that? Didn't I once see something about slowing down a
video in PPT. Hmmmm, yup sure did, just never had any reason to do it so it
didn't sick out at the time.
Assuming you have your controls toll bar visible, select the more controls
button, scroll to the end of the list and select Windows Media Player.
Place it on your slide. Now right click it and select Properties. Now at
the top select the "Custom" button next to the property. Give it the path
and name of your media file. Now select the advanced tab. In the top right
corner there is an option for "Rate". The default setting is 1.
Setting it to a lower rate, say .5 makes the video play at half speed. .25
plays it at 1/4 speed. Etc. A rate of 2 makes it run twice as fast as
normal.
Note: Once the video starts playing, you can not change the rate.
