I may have pressed the wrong key while trying to learn how to synchronize my
handheld. Now, I cannot retrieve my .pst data which has my names and
addresses.

I cannot open any of those data files. I have tried the google suggestions
for .pst and other HELP suggestions, but no luck.

How can I open my .pst files? I am using Windows XP; Outlook 2002.

Thank you

I have tried everything I can to access the Office Data File. I cannot open
it. I get messages that suggest it is "locked" and/or my Windows XP cannot
open the .pst format files. Jean GG

If the files are marked read-only, Outlook won't be able to open them. Make
sure they're on your hard drive (not on a CD or other removable media) and
make sure they're not marked read-only. If you still have trouble after
that, please post the exact text of all the error messages you get when you
try to open the files.

Thank you for your message. They are NOT marked read only. I have been able
to retrieve some of the data by using the import and export tab. However,
when I want to back up my new information I get this message:

Error copying file or folder: Cannot Copy Outlook 2: The process cannot
access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

I do not find "Outlook 2" in my files; I do not know what process has locked
a file; I do not understand what portion of the file has been locked.

Thank you. Jean GG

So you're getting the same error message if you try using File | Open |
Outlook Data File, as opposed to Import/Export?

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against your .PST file (while Outlook is
closed) to see if it finds any errors. Search your drive for a file called
scanpst.exe and run it. Allow the program to make a backup of your file
before it makes any changes.
