I want to restore default security settings for ACCESS 2000. Do I
just need to create a new workgroup access file? I want to leave a
computer as it just been installed with Access 2000.
It kind of depends on what you did, as to the best course of action now.
If you applied security to a database, doing the following could result in
you not being able to get into it again.
If you use Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe it will show you the workgroup you are
currently joined to by default. You want to join the standard system.mdw
that ships with Access. This is usually located in the windows system
folder.
Once you rejoin this workgroup, open Access and create a new database to
verify that it isn't asking for a username/password.
*If* that is the case, then search your computer for all *.mdw files and
delete every one of them except for the standard system.mdw that ships with
Access.
If it's not the case (ie you still get a prompt for username/password), try
copying system.mdw from another computer that has 2000 installed (and where
no username/password dialog comes up) to your computer.
