I went to help an elderly gentleman, who was having
problems with his system after he installed DSL. They
system was slow and he could not load Web pages. He told
me when I arrived that he had phoned Sympatico and they
told him he had a SASS virus (that's what he had written
down on a piece of paper) and he needed to clean his
system before they could help him further.
Then I messed up his system further because I did not find
any SASSER virus so I ran regedit and searched for and
deleted all SASS files. Now his system won't shutdown when
you click start and choose shutdown or restart. An error
box comes up which says that you will not be able to
shutdown or restart the system.
Question: Can I replace all the required SASS files on his
system. If so, how?
And would this rectify his system or do I have to re-
install Windows 2000?
He needs his system to communicate with visitors he is
expecting and I am embarrassed to tell him I screwed it up.
He only wanted me to get his e-mail going under DSL
connection.
I would appreciate any workable suggestions.
