How can I repair an apparently damaged zipped file, so that I can successfully unzip it?

Hi,

Prior to reformatting my hard drive to try to avoid the numerous errors that
my computer was making, I backed up then zipped my most important
information. I zipped the backup file, because I have been unable to get
the Windows XP backup facility to compress the data, the way the Windows 98
backup program used to do, and the original file would have been too big
for my backup storage medium.

However, when I tried to unzip the backup file, the zip program gave me the
following error message near the end of the unzip process: bad CRC 1bd65e71
(should be 76036e33). I was subsequently unable to view the contents. How
can I repair the zipped file, so that I can successfully unzip it?

Sincerely,

Hi,

Thanks for the response.
You can try doing this in WinZip.

I did try to unzip it using WinZip, since that was the program I used to zip
it in the first place.

On another matter, I note that you put the segment NOSPAM in your email
address. I take it that you have done so to prevent spam. If someone wants
to contact you, does he/she have to take out the NOSPAM in your email
address to do so (I've tried doing so--I just want to be sure that I've done
the right thing)?

Sincerely,

Windows XP cannot do

yes, if it put something like NOSPAM or REMOVE in your
address it will cut down on the amount of spam you
get. "Spam Bots" can seach the newsgroups looking a valid
e-mail address. Since your address with NOSPAM in it is
not valid you cant get the spam.
