How can I reduce the 40 Contact tabs to just a, b, ..., z?

The Contact tabs of Outlook consist of about 40 possibilities. I like to
reduce this to just 26, corresponding to the 26 letters of the alphabet.

What exactly do you mean by "contact tabs"?
 
Just go in Outlook to Contacts. There are now about 40 tabs indexing the last
names, starting with a, ending with z, but including all kinds of silly
letters with accents. I want to get rid of those.

Just go to Contacts in Outlook. All names are indexed on the righthand side
with tabs. With Office 2007 this starts with

They only show in any of the Card views. Have you got (or have you recently)
installed any different languages for Office? (I only have the standard
English alphabet here....)
