I have a cd that I need to read the doc files from. My adobe acrobat says it
cannot read it from the cd. My last computer had XP and I had no problems.
This computer has Vista. Do I need to download a program, so I can read and
edit these files on this cd that I have?

This has nothing to do with the operating system (XP, Vista). You need
to have a program installed on your computer that can open .doc files.
These are files created in Microsoft Word. Here are ways to open those
files:

1. Have MS Word installed on the new computer. MS Word is part of MS
Office. It can also be purchased separately. Neither Word nor Office is
part of an operating system. Go to the store and buy the program and
install it.

2. If you don't want to buy the program and you don't need to work with
the files, you can download a free Word viewer from Microsoft's Office
website.

3. If you don't want to buy the program and you do need to work with the
files, you will need to install a program that can open and work with MS
Word files. A good choice is OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org.
OpenOffice is a free office suite that can read/write MS Office formats.
