Can someone tell me if its posible to password protect a
file in wondows explore. For example, I have a photo I
don't want anyone to open. Can I password protect it?

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

You can change permissions on the file so that only your profile may access
it, but to set a password would require a third-party program. Something
like winzip that can password a zip file should be sufficient.

Right click the desktop and choose New> Compressed (Zipped) Folder
Place the photo in the Compressed Folder. Then

(From XP Help)
1.. Double-click the compressed folder.
2.. On the File menu, click Add a Password.
3.. In the Password box, type a password.
4.. In the Confirm Password box, type the password again.
That should do it.
When you place it in the folder it will make a copy of the photo so remember
to dump it.

Easier to just encrypt it. Must be NTFS.

.

Easier as long as you remember to export the encryption certificate and know
how to restore it, otherwise encrypted data can be permanently lost if the
system is reinstalled, or a password change is forced by an administrator.
