How can I make each slide look different on a powerpoint?

Kind of depends on what you want to look different. I usually use different
words to distinguish one from the other :)

haha I meant to ask how to make the backgrounds look different on each
slide, whenever i pick a background, or a slide design it applies that one to
all of my slides, i want each slide to have a different background.
 
What PowerPoint version are you using?
For 2002/XP and above, click Format > Slide Design.
Hover over the slide design, a dropdown button will appear.
Click on it and select "Apply to selected slides".

Choose Format, Background.
Click the downarrow thingie next to the color sample and pick Fill Effects.
Click the Picture tab.
Click Select Picture.
Choose the picture you want, then click OK
Click Apply (NOT Apply to all).

Move along to the next slide and repeat.
