when i logon to a system in our network i get an error
saying that there is IP address conflict with another
system having hardware address
00:0A:B7:1B:D8:00............how do i locate where this
system is, im sure this isnt a workstation or printer or
server....as i have a list of all ip addresses used on our
network which is statically setup.

is there any way i can locate this system.

1. Shut the machine down.
2. Go to a different machine
3. Ping the problem IP# to verify that something is actually using it.
4. Using the "problem" IP#, type NBTSTAT -a <problem IP#>
5. It should return the machine's name, domain membership, and the currently
or last logged on user.
6. If there is no machine and this is a "false positive", then find the IP#
listed in both DNS and WINS and delete those entries. The Entries will be
re-created when you start the "problem" machine back up and connect.

There are several third party network scanners available that will PING your
entire LAN segment and tell you the MAC address.
