How Can I Keep Search Term?

The thing that has frustrated about IE since I began using it is it
doesn't retain the search word(s). If I enter a term in Find. If I
leave the page Find closes, and every time Find closes it throws away
my search string words/terms.

I frequently have occasion to search several different webpages for
the same term and it is very annoying to have to enter it over and
over as I go to different pages. Years ago when I used Netscape it
remembered the search word until you closed the browser.

Hi jim :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows or IE yo uare using, but, you might
try the following and see if it helps:

How to set Autocomplete for addresses in the Address Bar

In order to enable the Autocomplete, do the following:

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Click the Content tab. Click the button
that says Autocomplete. Check Web Addresses and all other items you want
used with Autocomplete. Click OK

On the General tab look for the section on History. Set the Day to keep
pages in history to how many days you want to keep pages in the History.

or..........................

Autocomplete not working

Work through the possible solutions at
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers4.htm#autocomplete

Then see:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1585442,00.asp

or........

IE not keeping my History

Turn off the ActiveX part of McAfee's Internet Filter

or........................
If you have McAfee AV running:

History - Not Being Saved

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your Internet
Explorer History file working. Hope it is of some help:

Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On
the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next
to "ActiveX Controls".

or..............

Run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|Main

and insure that Save_Session_History_On_Exit is marked YES and not NO. (I
just checked mine, and it is set to NO by default).

Also try slipping down to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|TypedURLs

or.............

It could be that the History folder has become damaged or corrupted, try
deleting the folder, then reboot and a new one will be created.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

I didn't realize it was called autocomplete, but it's working for the
address (url) box and username/passwords. I didn't see anything that
indicated it functions in Find.

Does this autocomplete effect work for you in Find?

You're welcome. I'm sorry, but, I have not been able to find anything to
support autocomplete, or History, working in the Find feature. Perhaps
someone else here may have some information on this they can provide for
you.
