I am using Microsoft Outlook for email. Recently, when bringing in email,
messages appear very brieffly and then disappear before I can read them. Can
anyone help?

We need a little more information.
Do you use an Exchange Server for your email?
Do you use a Virus checker? If so which?
What version of Outlook do you use?

Usually when I hear this statement, my first thought is that
the "Delivery" location of the email in Outlook.

In Outlook 2003:
- Open Outlook
- Select the TOOLS menu
- Select E-MAIL ACCOUNTS

Near the bottom of the window is a text box that shows
your "Deliver new e-mail to the following location:".

Depending upon your answers to some of the above
questions, this may need to be looked at.

The answer was not much help. Thee is no select EMAIL ACCOUNTS uner tools in the Outlook 2003 and certainly not any ""Deliver new e-mail to the following location:".

1. I'm not sure what an Exchange Server is, but I'm pretty sure I don't use
one. My email comes in from my ISP, which is copper.net
2. I use a virus checker. I is McAfee. I believe I have relieved the
problem and bit, though maybe not eliminted it, by tweaking the McAfee virus
checker blocked mail.
3. I use Outlook 2003

Hi Stephen,

maybe this helps as I was in a similar situation just recently. Mails
that I get daily suddenly didn't show up in my inbox anymore although
I could see them on the server or when opening my inbox from a
colleagues Outlook.

Have a look at: "Extras" => "Options" => "Junk E-Mail"

If you have set this setting to "High" AND checked "immediately delete
Mails recognized as Spam and don't put them in the Spam folder" (or
similar, I have the german version of Outlook) at least uncheck this
box. The mails then should show up again in your Spam folder or, if
you set the settings to "Low", they should appear in your inbox.

HTH,

Andy

P.S.: Don't say "I have set these settings ages ago and only recently
the mails disappear". Same situation was in my case, these settings
("High") haven't been touched for months and suddenly certain mails
didn't get through to my inbox anymore!
