Hi
When typing a mobile number in a cell I put a ' in front & get &
formula error message .
What is the correct way do this?

I cannot reproduce your problem.
What, exactly, are you typing?
What, exactly, is the nature of the "formula error message"?

When I input a mobile number there is still a little green triangle
in the upper left-hand corner of the cell, saying thet there is an
error in the formula?

that is not an error in a formula. This is because you have
text-formatted numbers. Deactivate this error in Excel-Options =>
Formulas => Error rules
