I know how to insert the degree sign but can I put in a degree sign with the
F after it in a short keyboard stroke or two?

You could make it an automatic text entry of various types (AutoText,
AutoCorrect, AutoComplete As You Type, depending on your version of
Word), or you could assign a keyboard shortcut to the degree sign in
the Insert Symbol panel and then type the F.

At U2109, there's a single character that contains the degree symbol and F
combined. If you have a font that contains this (such as Arial Sans
Unicode), you could assign a keyboard shortcut to it.

The only other commonly held fonts that include that character are
Cambria Math, Lucida Sans, and Lucida Sans Unicode. Even Cambria Math
has only 65 of the 80 "Letterlike Symbols" range.

Thanks, Suzanne. Your post put me on the right track and I was able to find
the symbol in the font I wanted. Thank you. I made a shortcut key for it.
I use this all the time when working with recipes.

You're welcome. There's a similar character for Celsius, as you no doubt
noticed. And Word has a built-in shortcut for the degree symbol alone:
Ctrl+@, Spacebar (that is, on U.S. keyboards, Ctrl+Shift+2, Spacebar).
