I would like to find out out I can initate the remote assistance with
an IP. If I call my help desk they ask for my ip and then can remote
in (with my permission). I can do this for others but the only way I
know how is through the IM. This involves to much effort on their
part.

So I need to initiate a request to take over a users desktop with only
knowing there IP address. Is this add on software?

Thanks for the link, but this is not going to work for me. I need
almost no user interaction. What I would like if for them to give me
their IP and I initiate the offer. They get a popup to accept or deny
the request. This might not be a built in feature of XP. Maybe its
an add-on that my company has added.

If you are in a domain or trusted domain then the Remote Assistance "Offer" function should work for
you. Go to "Start -> Help and Support" and search on "offer remote assistance" for more information
and/or look at these KB articles for help with that...

For a workgroup/SOHO (ie. non-domain) environment, look at this 'poor mans' alternative to the
domain environment "offer" functionality...

That procedure is based on the "file invitation" method by the way...

In all cases, the Novice must give their permission for the Expert to both view and take control of
the Novice desktop.

"Offer" works, but only in a domain.

If your machine is a domain member of your work domain, this is what is
happening with your work help desk.

If the users you seek to help are not domain members of a domain in which
you are an administrator, this isn't going to work for what you want to do.
