How can I get My Movie to play on DVD player?

As you can tell from my question, I am a total novice. I just created my
first movie in Windows Movie Maker and saved it to a DVD. However, the DVD
won't play on my DVD player connected to my TV. Is there a particular format
I have to save the WMM file in so it can be viewed on my TV? Thanks so much
for any help!

What software did you use and how did you burn the movie to the DVD?

You can't just copy the WMV file and save it to the DVD. You need a DVD
authoring software package like Roxio's Easy Media Creator, Nero or Sonic
MyDVD to create the DVD package from your saved Windows Media Video (.WMV)
or .AVI file that you created in Movie Maker.

A lot of people think that when they save the project as a .MSWMM file the
job is done. It isn't done until you do a Save to my computer in Finish
Movie Task.

Unless you have the Media Center Edition of Windows XP Windows Movie Maker
can't save a movie to the DVD (and some say that even the MCE version won't
do it well.)

PapaJohn's web site has some good information on creating DVDs. Go here and
look at the bottom of the left side of the screen for Making DVDs.

Thanks so much for the reply. I do have the Media Center Edition of Windows
XP and I was given the choice of saving the movie file to a DVD. The DVD
plays fine on my computer but the movie is not viewable on my DVD player
connected to my TV. Do you know if there is a particular format and/or type
of DVD that I should use when saving the file to a DVD. I will also look at
the papajohns website for information. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, I can't help you further with the DVD setup you have since I
do not have MCE. Maybe you will find your answer in PapaJohn's site or
someone else will respond.

The type of DVD (DVD+R or DVD-R) to use is determined by your DVD burner,
not Movie Maker... and yes, not all discs are compatible with all players.
Test the disc on other DVD players if you have access to them.

The Media Center Edition of XP gives you 2 disc saving choices, a CD and a
DVD.... if you picked CD, then the disc will play on the computer but not on
a DVD player. If it really is a DVD and it plays fine on the computer and
not the player, then the added testing is needed... if your burner supports
other types of discs, you could try them too.

I was also told by an IT tech. that I would need to have a 'DVD Burner' on my
PC, not a DVD Player, to view my movies I create to watch on my DVD player
connected to my TV!
