How can I focus with VueScan?

My scans are starting to get fuzzy. I did not know that a scanner could be
focused until recently, and I think this is the problem because the glass is
clean and the scanner is only a couple months old. When I click the pulldown
menu, the focus option is greyed out. Do I have something set wrong that is
keeping me from doing this? The scanner is a Canon Lide30. Can that model not
be focused? Thanks.

Sorry -- No. Many/most? flat bed scanners can not be focused.
Many/most? film scanner can be.
