Oops... One day after installing MSN 6 (and I am not saying
this was to blame) my IE froze the computer everytime I
launched it. Nothing seemed to cure this. I tried internet
explorer repair (which said it was successful) many times.
I tried unistalling (well the only option was to roll it
back) many times (which it said it did successfully). I
tried re-installing IE from a magazine cover CD I had. It
did both options a repair on the existing install and a
complete setup from scratch.
None of these options worked the program still froze the
computer every time it launched (it had been on this PC for
several months prior to this working flawlessly) up to date
anti-virus and firewall are in place. Its seems the
corrupted file(s) are not being overwritten by the
repair/install procedure.
In the end in desperation I tried deleting the program
files one by one from microsofts list of files. Some you
cant delete because they are also in use by windows. Now it
seems I have completely screwed it because the setup/repair
program will no longer attempt to install IE it bombs out a
few seconds after install starts with the dialogue box "you
must close all other applications and try again"...?
How can I completely remove IE6 and start from scratch?
Please advise...
