How can I find out what is causing Explorer to reset?

Hi

I'm using WinXP Home edition SP-1 on a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. I've got
quite a bit of software installed, including various utilities and shell
extensions and Norton Systemworks 2003. From time to time, and quite
regularly nowadays, Explorer seems to reset itself - all my desktop icons
suddenly vanish and then recreate themselves. There doesn't seem to be any
obvious pattern to when or why this happens - is there some logging tool
that I can use to find out what is causing this?

Cheers

Jerry

I am having the same problem. For me it started about 6 months ago,
about the time of a MS update. I have also noted that for me it appears to
be related to viewing graphics in Window's Explorer ( you do mean Window's
Explorer not Internet Explorer don't you?)

I am currently eliminating possible problems, and I have some ideas and
have gotten some suggestions. I hope to have an answer to my problem in a
few days. I would like to avoid a total re-install.

You can see some of my ideas and comments from others on this subject in
the thread called "Repair Window's Explorer?" in this newsgroup and in
annexcafe.general.user2user.

I'm having similar problems with Windows Explorer - Error Reporting in XP
always quotes ntdll.dll as being involved.

Not got any further, have a previous version of ntdll.dll in I386 System32
folder but not sure if you can replace current one due to the protected
system files within XP. Not sure if it would help either. Hoping for help.
