I am attempting to use the comments field of a folder to
add more text. How can this be done?!? Nothing on the
internet has helped...

Apparently, the ability to add comments to a folder, which was available in
W2K has disappeared in XP.

There is a clunky way to add a comment that will only appear in the pop up
tooltip when hovering the cursor over the folder, but this is usually not a
satisfactory solution. However, here are the instructions, originally posted
by David Candy.

<quote>
Put a text file (or add to an existing one) in the folder called desktop.ini
with the following lines,

[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=An optional description for the folder that displays in a pop
up tip and web view when selected

Then mark the folder read only.

There is a much more elegant way of accomplishing this with a third party
program.
