How can I edit Background Graphics?

I have an existing PPT that I am opening in 2007. There are images on the
master slide that I cannot edit in any way. I can hide them by selecting
"Hide Background Graphics" but that is it. All other controls have no effect
on these graphics. There is also a background image that I can control the
transparency, color etc. How do you edit whatever graphics are controlled by
the Background Graphics button?

Are they selectable on the slide master (the large thumbnail at the top of
the list when you go to View | Slide Master)?

(logo) from old presentations. Going into Slide Master view, I can't select
the graphics. They don't show up in the selection pane either. I can,
however, hide them with the "Hide Background Graphics" checkbox - so somehow
ppt knows they're there. I want to copy/paste this master but I can't figure
out to do it. Any help appreciated.

It turns out that you can't. If you open the Presentation in an older
version of Powerpoint, the graphics are seperate and you can select them. If
you have a background created in an earlier version of Powerpoint and attempt
to open it in 2007, it simply won't work. The versions are not compatible.

You have to edit the Master Slide in 2002 and then go to 2007, or delete it
completely and start over. You can't delete in 2007 however since you can't
select anything, so best to start over from scratch if you don't have an
older version available. Microsoft has not admitted this is a problem yet,
so there is no support or fix availalbe.

Yeah, I figured as much, but thanks for clarifying. That's a big hastle for
me, and I guess anyone upgrading that - like me - works as a consultant and
produces presentations with many different company logos and styles. I'll
have to run a different version on another computer.

Can you not do a round robin and save the presentation out as an html.
The graphics should come out in the associated directory, edit the
graphic, then bring it back into ppt.

I tried this initially however in my case the conversion resulted in major loss of quality on the background images. curved lines became blocky. I am thinking I will have to recreate the thing probably by taking a screenshot then editing in illustrator.

I read this elsewhere and it works:


Go to view, slide master then make sure you select the first slide in thelist on the left. When you are on that first slide you can select and editthese types of background items.

In Office 2010, it's easy to edit background graphics.
Just right-click on any area on the slide and go to
Storyboarding>Edit Layout

Then you can go to the master slide and edit or insert new background graphics.

Worked for me.

I had the same issue earlier wanted to remove the background graphic but the only option in office 2013 ppt is 'hide background'. So I hide it and applied to all slides, copied all slides by selecting all to new ppt. It worked. you can try the same.
