I'm stopped from downloading files greater than 4gb in size. Can I
format a drive/partition in some way to do this? Any help much
appreciated. (If you can also email me your reply, that would be
great.)

answered in xpgeneral - please Crosspost instead of multiposting which is
what you have done.

This has nothing to do with how large a file you can download. It has
to do with how large a file you can write. If your drive is FAT32, the
largest file you can write to it is 4GB. You need to convert to NTFS.

To convert to NTFS, you use the CONVERT command. But first read
http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm because there's an issue regarding
cluster size that isn't obvious.

Also note that conversion is a big step, affecting everything on your
drive. When you take such a big step, no matter how unlikely, it is
always possible that something could go wrong. For that reason, it's
prudent to make sure you have a backup of anything you can't afford to
lose before beginning.
