I have an ispiron 6000 reecently (4 months ago) won in an auction.
It shows a bluetooth icon on the metal plate hd strip and also has
"bluetooth connectivity" displayed on the control panel. But when I click
once or twice it tells me that the device has not been turned on. Where do I
turn it on and how.

Use one of these free system inventory programs to see exactly what hardware
is in your Inspiron:

http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site)

Dell's site will have lots of information of course, but since you can order
the Inspirons with different hardware configurations, the system inventory
program will tell you what you've actually got.

There should be a service tag on any Dell computer, use
that number to log into Dell.com and you will get the
specific details about the computer.

Also, device manager should show the Bluetooth and you can
set/check its properties there. You can also enable or
disable in device manager. In manage services, you can also
turn it on.
