M. B.

I have a folder, which was created during an UNZIP of a file. It is called:

[BkA] - ( 21M 5F - COMPLETE ) -

It has NO files in it, and is completely empty. I have tried deleting it
in all the ways possible (changed attrib, tried using Norton's, tried
renaming it to something else, etc...) but when I try to do so, I get the
following error:

"Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk."

I have notticed that if I right click on the folder, and then select
Properties, I get blank name in where the Folder Name should be. But if I
right click and choose "Rename", it does seem allow me to do it, but when I
hit enter (to make the changes official), I get the same error as described
above.

My system is otherwise fine (ran a disk scanner, virus checker, etc...), and
I am running Windows XP SP1 with all of the latest patches installed.

Please advise.

Nice tip. :o)

it explain how to delete hard to delete files in XP. You should scan for
viruses and Malware on top of this.

Kelly:

Thanks for the tip. However, my problem is that the "undeletable" issue is
a FOLDER and not a file.

I tried using the DOS "deltree" command, but it does not recognize it. I
also tried the "rd" command, but it did not work. Since I am running my
Windows XP in NTFS, is there something I can do to wipe out a whole FOLDER
(which is in the ROOT C: directory)? All of the subfolders (including the
BAD one) have no files, so I don't mind loosing them all.

Thanks for all the efforts in trying to help.

hey guys, thanks....

just did it! The solution was to use the:

"rd FOLDERNAME /s /q" command from the Command Prompt

It finally did the trick!

Hi M.B.

You can delete it using the Recovery Console, just boot from the XP CD
and delete it from there, if it is not in the Windows folder, you will
need a snap-in to use 'set Allow AllPaths = TRUE' which is described
here:

Policy in Windows XP Professional
This step-by-step article describes how to use Group Policy to add
more power to the Recovery Console. Windows XP provides a Group Policy
