How can I delete items from the list of "inactive icons" on the taskbar

I'd like to clean up some items that are listed for
hiding. I know how to make them active and inactive and
all of that, but I don't want some things on the list of
past items to show on the list. There has got to be a
way to delete or edit these items; I'm just clueless as
to where the log file might be. I've checked in the
registry and didn't see anything obvious. Any help would
be appreciated.
