How can I change VSN?

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me how I can change the volume serial number? I use XP and
downloaded VolumeID v2.0
I open command prompt in XP and type "volumeid <C:> 3917-1BD7" but it says
"access denied". It's a home pc and only I use it. Any idea about what I
should do?

do you log in with the built in administrator account?
 
no. it doesn't ask me for a login. I just turn on, I installed modem with no
problem.
