How Can I change the file extension?

I need some help! I had saved several video files of my wedding ceremony to a CD while I was reformatting my computer. Before I had went through with the formatting, I ensured that the files could play off of the CD (to which they could). So I formatted my hard drive, to which all the original files were deleted. Now, I have the files on CD (with file extensions as .MSWMM) and they now won't play on my Movie Maker.

PLLLEEAAASE someone help me! In reading other posts, I have read that you need to save the file in .ASI or .wmv or other extensions. How can I convert these saved files to reflect a readable extension so that I can see my videos again? Is it even possible? Please someone respond to this! Thanks.

Sounds like you might have gotten yourself into a corner.
The project files (MSWMM extension) never contain copies
of the source files, which are always needed to preview
and render a movie file (WMV or AVI extension).

If you put the MSWMM file on a CD and open it from there,
all the pointers to the source files on your hard drive
will still work... that's why things looked good at that
step.

But, unless you have your source files someplace, there's
no going back.

question--if i still have the source files, how do i
change the format? It only gives me 2 options--all files
while will pull up everyo picture in that folder, or the
MMW extension. I have the third party software to copy
onto cd as pcd file but cant get it loaded due to the
file type.

Sorry Chris, I don't think I'm following your question closely enough to
give a good answer. Maybe you're asking about how to convert the WMV or AVI
file from Movie Maker into MPEG files to burn to a CD. If so, TMPGEnc is a
great tool. There's a link on my CD Burning... Introduction page.
