I am fully familiar with the concepts of changing the background - but I
want to change the background when the Log On to Windows dialog box is on
screen.

I have just had to rebuild XP Pro and the screen had a dark background
before - so it must be customisable.

At the moment it is a plain bright blue.

Any tips anyone?

wow...all that work....i would just invest in new
computer.

how long has it taken to compose your message...weeks?
in that length of time you could get new computer fired
up and workin' on it.

The settings for the logon screen are taken from the
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT section of the registry:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Appearance\Schemes
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Current
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
(and so on)
