I have a client that uses a security system that has no type of export or
save as. I need to copy the video that is playing in the software on my
desktop. The software is a free download from the company that makes the
video security system that will run on XP. It will let me open video in the
free software or save each image as BMP, but that is too much work to save it
frame by frame. I didn't know if there was a way to copy the video playing on
my desktop...like print screen for an image! Right now the only thing I have
done is to set my video camera in front of my monitor and record. Quality is
not that good.

Papa John…you saved my day…it amazes me that I have about $15,000.00 worth of
Mac equipment, but had to use my PC with a free download to do what I needed.
Don’t get me wrong…I use the Mac for graphic design and just play around with
video stuff, but I do have some decent programs for video on the Mac…After
Effects Pro, Motion, Final Cut Pro Studio and a few others, but the one thing
I could not do was get the video from the proprietary play back software that
was PC only to any sort of format that could be used out side of the security
system. I don’t understand why this company don’t make there video play back
option to export to other formats, but thanks to your help…I now have a way.
Now I will need to see if any one of these Mac programs will import a WMV
format…that will be a piece of cake to work out…even if I need to turn it
into an AVI to import. Thanks again!

Hey Papa John...one problem I am have is when I take the file over to the Mac
as a .wmv and use the Mac version of Windows Media Player, I get an error
stateing: The Channel does not support the stream format. It will play back
fine on the PC and what I really need to do is save it to an AVI before I
take it to the Mac. It seems I am limited to save it as an AVI when I do a
screan capture when useing encoder and this might be the reason for the error
on the Mac in Windows Media Player. Any ideas?

This seems to be the only option I have with encoder. It has put me a few
steps closer to what I need, but I can't get the file into Final Cut Pro. FCP
will import many types of movie files, but not wmv! I can't even get the WMV
files to play on the Mac useing the Mac version of Windows Media Player. I
tried VLC from your web site, but it gives an error as well. Is there a way I
can output the PC version of the WMV to an AVI? I think I can make that work.

I think I have it now...I need to change the default settings and not save as
streamimg and it will play back on the Mac...I think once I can do that, I
can find a way to save as an AVI on the Mac...Thabks again.
