How can I blind network disks from user view?

I have two departments all with XP Home. Two machines are financial and need
file sharing to run Quickbooks. This allows all other users to see the
shares even though I have locked them out using security settings.

I want to make these disappear from their screen so that they do not see the
shares (out of sight-out of mind thing). Anyone know how to blind these
share views even though file sharing is on in the two computers?

Have you tried using the $ with the file shared name, then map the shares on
the computers that needs access to those folders?

Thanks for the reply. Here is what happened:

1) On the [server] deleted the old share and shared again with name$
2) On the [workstation] share name did not come up on the network so it
appears that appending the $ did blind the list entry to network members.

however ....

The old share name remains in the [Workstation] list when I look at My
Network Places. When I click on the list entry, I get a "path not available"
so I am assuming that the [server] has deleted the original share name. How
do I get this entry out of the My Network Places list?. I have shut down and
restarted both computers. The list entry can also be seen by a W98 system on
the network. So how to clean up the list is the next issue.

Hi,

You need to clean out the NetHood folder in each user profile to get rid of
that netshare link in the network places. As for Win98 machine, it might
have a NetHood folder as well. Also with the NetHood folder, if you want,
you can create the links to the hidden shares for each user that you want to
have access to that folder.
