The new computer I just bought is supposed to have the OEM version of Windows
XP Media Center Edition 2005 Professional. My Computer/Properties/General
says XP MCE Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Run/winver says XP MCE - Version
5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.05030-1519 : Service Pack 2). Run/dxdiag says
XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600). Are these all synonyms for XP MCE 2005
Pro? And why is the version name different in all three places? Thank you!

Good link - thanks psg! MediaCenter gives: Windows XP Media Center Edition
2005 - Version: 5.1.2700.2230 built by: private/xpsp_mce_qfe(wmbla). So do I
have Windows XP Professional SP2 AND Windows Media Center Edition 2005?

XP MediaCenter is based on XP Pro, with the support for logging into a
Domain removed and additional multimedia capabilities added. It is
not surprising that some reports might identify MediaCenter as XP Pro.
You might also find some instances where it will be identified as
Windows NT version 5.1

Hope this explains the situation.

Good luck

No, you don't have both. Media Center Edition is essentially just a
particular "flavor" of XP Professional--one with some extra features.
