How Can I Access Shared Folders From Home?

Hi,

We're a small office in a university, with one computer running Win2K Server
and the rest running XP Pro. The Win2K Server has been given a static IP but
the others get their IP addresses from a DHCP server outside of our office.
We share folders through Windows Workgroup.

Is there a way to access the shared folders from home? I tried setting up
VPN on the Server, and I can connect to it from home, but I can't see the
shared folders on the other computers. I'd appreciate any hints....

You need to be running a WINS server in order to browse. Have you tried the UNC? Example:

\\PCName\ShareName

UNC does not work. I *think* that's because the pc's in our office get their
IP addresses from a DHCP server outside our office, rather than from the
Win2K Server (which is also the VPN server).

I don't think I can run WINS server because ... I would also need to modify
the DHCP server (and that is not under our control).
