Is there any particular setup on the FE pc, to remotely access the BE file
using a modem?
In other environments TCPIP is used, no problem, but now that Access is file
based, what can we do?

I want to do this because it is difficult for me to always go to the
client's site for adjustments.
I'd like to do it from my chair.

TIA

We use PC Anywhere. Performance varies, depending on the quality of the
connection. But the nice thing about it is that the program is actually
running at the remote site, only the display and the keystrokes are being
transmitted across the wire. Which means that if you do get disconnected,
you won't corrupt your database - you just reconnect and carry on where you
were interrupted.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

A good choice is to use windows remote desktop in windows xp.

You could try and setup a VPN, but dialup, or even a cable modem is much too
slow. You can read about some remote solutions here:

I use Win98 on my old laptop (PII 360MHz), because I' be away for a while,
so I need to connect occasionally to the remote DB.
Do I need to do anything on my laptop to access the remote desktop on the XP
machine?
