Hi all,

I'm starting to build a new system. I'd like this one to allow me to
transfer my family mini-dvs onto the HD so that I can edit them and copy
them back to a DVD. What size hard drive do I need to do this?

If you're planning to store a single rip on HD short-term until you write
it to DVD then you only need a few Gigs of working space. 5Gb would prolly
be plenty. If you plan to store a number of rips for an length of time then
the answer is bloody HUGE!!!

Uncompressd DV takes up a lot of space. Get an 80-120GB drive and
you'll be good.

I am doing this and use a 120GB HDD. SO the answer is as big as you can
afford and that your OS will support.

You are also better going for ATA as big as you can get ie. 133 or 100.

If you have XP or W2k then format the HDD as NTFS.

Another tip is that Pinnacle is good, I am using it but if you want Premier
Pro, as I do, then buy a cheap version on Ebay, register it with Apple and
then purchase the Premier Pro upgrade. Should save you £400.
