I have a PCChips M599LMR mother board I bought about 3 years ago and I
have W2000 on the machine. When I put it together, I got an 8G drive,
but now need more space. No one sells 8G any more. I had an experience
earlier this year with a 40G drive that suggested it wouldn't work. I'm
not quite convinced. This may be dependent upon BIOS and the OS. When I
tried the 40G drive earlier this year, I was using NT 4.0. Without
buying a drive, is there some way I can figure out what the max size for
a HD is?

Your system is fairly old by today's standards. Most
systems from thre to four years ago had a 13GB limitation.
Even older systems had an 8GB limit. Drive manufacturers
sometimes provide a drive translation program that can be
installed to the drive during installation. Check with the
various manufacturers out there to see what they offer.
Also check to see if there is a BIOS update available for
your system.

Well, one this if for certain. I was able to bring up a 30G drive on the
the PCChips machine, so I'm happy.

you can work around bios limitations by buying a PCI IDE card. I had to do
that with my daughters machine when I installed a 60 gig drive...
