Bought a computer that was to have a 9.1 GB UW SCSI-2 drive, but drive shows
Quantrum Viking II 4.5LVD. My question is this a 4.5 or a 9.1, and does it
have something to do with double density, as that is what seller telling me.
The computer shows 4.5 GB in properties. Thanks

Hi there,

i guess you have been ripped off about 4.5 Gb, the Viking 4.5 is 4.5 Gb, and
i really dont get the double density story, maybe the guy told this with
regards to the option of "double spacing" a drive, sort of compressing all
in and out going data (like winzip), but this doesnot alter the physical 4.5
Gb structure ...

If at boot time the SCSI BIOS reports 4.5GB then that's what you have and
the seller is telling porkies.

Sounds like you were ripped off. He probably compressed the drive to make it
look like 9 gigs. Try putting 9 gig of MP3 on it and you'll see that
compression doesn't work so good - you might get lucky and fit 5gigs.
