Hi Experts:

When a machine (Windows Xp) is connected to multiple monitors (say 3
monitors), each monitor gets an "identifier" (1,2,3 as displayed in
"Identify Monitors"). How those numbers are determined?

Thanks in advance!

By default, and until changes are made, most likely by the priority the
video adapter assigns to its output ports. For example, the dual-head
cards I use have 1 and 2 marked on the bracket beside each connector. And
I seem to recall that if I connected a monitor to the 2nd port and nothing
to the first, there was no display at boot.

However, once the multiple monitors are installed, you can assign which one
is primary, and when you use the display applet to show the monitor IDs,
that can change.
