How 2 keep old, defunct email addrss from showing in drpdwn lst?

Every time I try to send an email to my brother, his old address shows up as
a choice, and not his new one. Sometimes I accidentally miss that and send
the mail to his old address. This happens even though the old address is not
listed in my contacts.
