Hello,
Sorry, i don't know the name of this function; When entering text in a column
excel keeps the data (in a list?) and next time you type the first letters
of a previously entered string it fills the rest for you. This is a great
time-saving feature.
My question is: Is it possible to copy the information collected from a
column (ie A JUN!) in same column (A JUL!) in a new worksheet?
I'm tired to have to start all over each month in a new work sheet when the
nice stuff is left in the previous month (worksheet)!

TIA for your input,

Manuel

This feature is called "autocomplete".

You can toggle it on/off via Tools|Options|Edit tab
Enable AutoComplete for Cell Values

But it works by using the values around that cell (above and below--not to the
right/left).

So if you turn it on, you can build that list of values--or copy all those
values to the same column (and delete it when you're done???)

Dave,
Thank you for the explanation on autocomplete. I tried to copy the old
column into a new column in a new worksheet, then i deleted the values which
also deleted the old autocomplete list. I even copy all the values at the
bottom (row 1000, way beyond my application) without delete them. This did
not work either.
I guess there is no workaround to carry old "autocomplete" information into
a new worksheet.
Again, tanks a lot for your help,
Manuel

The bad news is that those values have to be close to where you're entering
data.

Since you put them in row 1000 (I assume it's waaayyyy below your real data),
excel doesn't see that as something it should use for autocomplete.

But if you just inserted the rows near your data (and either hide them or delete
them when you're done), it should work.

(But depending on the size of the list, it might be more trouble than it's
worth.)

This doesn't support autocomplete, but maybe you could use data|validation and
use the mouse to pick the values.

Debra Dalgleish has nice instructions at:
http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal01.html

(or maybe you could use a combobox from the control toolbox toolbar (or even a
small userform). This has a property that you can set to say you want to match
entries.)
