hover buttons

for a school webpage, i planned to use hover buttons
instead of old fassioned hyperlinks. they work fine
except under ie 4.0...they simply don't show up. FP says
that the DHTML effects and hover buttons are supported
under 4.0, but the older stations on campus running 4.0
under windoows 95 don't. any suggestions other than
redoing more than 5000 links?

Requires that each machine have a Java Virtual Machine installed. You should
consider not using Java Hover Buttons, as many new user of Windows XP, IE6
and NS6+ do not have a Java Virtual Machine installed.

I am having the same problem. My hovers show up just
finee in edit, but when I view in browser they are not
there. They show up on 2 other computers here.

So am I understanding right? Those out there without the
virtual java machine download cannot view hover buttons?

That is 100% correct. The JVM is the program that interprets the code of
the hover buttons and displays it in the webpage. Without a JVM, you end up
with plain gray (or is it black...?) boxes that do nothing. Since you, as
the page designer, don't have any control over your visitor's computer and
you can't ensure they have a JVM, you will find that regulars in this
newsgroup will always suggest that you avoid them.

As an alternative, you may want to look at JavaScript enabled rollovers.

Um...duh.

Have no clue what I was thinking. Guess I was subconsciously willing Jim to
develop a rollover add-in. We'll have to see how well that works.

Everyone, repeat after me, "Jim must make a rollover add-in."

:P

He does have a page on his site for reviews and recommendations of different
rollover programs.
