Hover buttons don't display

I just added two hover buttons to my website. They work
fine when I view them online having uploaded them.
BUT, on my friends' computer they don't show. There is
just a space where they ought to be.
Why should that be ?
 
Hover button are Java applets, not JavaScript. Java and JavaScript are two
separate technologies and only related by the word Java.
