Lately my "hour-glass" has been "hanging". Can anyone help?

Gotta keep a little humor.
Try this, if when booting into the system.
Start
Run...
"type" cmd /k
<enter>
cd\
<enter>
sfc /scannow
<enter>

If hanging during apps
depends on what app

If it has to do with the OS
Run...
cmd /k
<enter>
cd\
<enter>
chk /v
For read only errors
Write'em down

@ %SystemRoot%
in command prompt
chkdsk /r
say, yes
boot
(takes half hour)

If you are still having trouble be more exact about when and where

Thank you for your prompt response. It "hangs" for
instance when I press the clear button in the "advanced"
box of the properties window as well as other times.

Hope this isn't a dumb question... with sfc /scannow, it wants to replace
allot of dll's with the original versions on my install CD... how do I know
I WANT to replace these files... the command gives an option to skip the
file, but never tells what the file actually is... so how can I make an
informed decision on whether to skip or not?

Plus, does this "undo" files which may have been replaced/upgraded during
past windows-updates?

You do, trust me....

If it couldn't find them on your HDD, it will ask for the correct (not infected or corrupt)
libraries.

but one thing for sure, there is at least one God, and I get on my knees so quick.
But some of the guys that help in here got to be saints.
thx,
