Hotsync stopped after upgrade

We just upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP and our
Palm Pilots no longer Hotsync. Every time I try to
reinstall or uninstall the desktop software, I get an
error message 1606. Palm says it is a Microspft error
that requires a Registry edit. I tried to find the area
that needs changing, and I could not.

Anyone ever have this problem or know how to fix it?
