Now that Hotmail is about to charge for it to be read via OE, what freeware
is available to check it?
I have tried ePrompter, but found it unsatisfactory. A search finds several,
but I would welcome the suggestions of the group. It would be ideal to have
one which has the facility to delete and reply.
Thanks......J.

They're gonna change Hotmail, not OE. So it's very unlikely any of the
programs that can retrieve hotmail will be able to do so later.
Wait for the new protocol, and the person that's gonna solve this new
puzzle.

Perhaps you should consider changing your free mail provider. There are
other that offer standard POP support (www.yahoo.co.uk, www.loftmail.com),
and hotmail is blacklisted by most dnsbl based spam blockers, which
indicates that it is not a very good choice :)

I've been using PopPeeper with some success.

And Pop Tray works well too, at the present time. However I expect that
Hotmail will prevent that from happening when they change to paid account.

I opened a Gmail account, which allows pop3 access and email forwarding.
Contacted everyone on my hotmail address book and have hardly had an email
at hotmail for over a month now. I access my Gmail via OE and it all seems
good.
