Hotmail won't open PDF files

My daughter cannot open PDF files sent to her Hotmail account even though I
can with OE on the same PC.

When she tries to access them they open with Word, which can't read them.

She is going travelling & needs to be able to open PDF files worldwide.

Any advice gratefully received.
 
What happens when she tries to open them in the default PDF reader? What is
the default PDF reader? (Don't open them in Word.) Can she open them if
she saves the PDF file to the HDD first?
