Using XPsp2 and IE 6.0.2900.2180. IE opens www.msn.com (and subsequent
pages, favorites, etc.) fine but, when I log on to My MSN the page format is
all screwed up. When I go in Hotmail a message pops up that I am using a
browser that is not supported. I have tried to download IE again but, of
course it tells me I don't need it and won't let me. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the article. I tried everything mentioned and am still having the
problem. When I open IE it goes directly to msn.com and displays the page
correctly. When I click on My MSN the next page display is not in the proper
format. I can still sign in and go to My MSN page which is still not
formatted properly. I can use all of the links on that page and the pages
are displayed correctly except for Hotmail. It will display correctly but
still tells me I am using a browser that is not compatible with Hotmail. I
click on continue and it takes me to my emails. Just to try something else,
I download Firefox 1.0 and it still acts in the same exact manner. I don't
know why this would have any effect but, this started happening the same day
Hotmail upgraded to 250MG.

Hotmail's been having loads of problems since the recent server and service
upgrade, Jeff. Here are a few items which can bring on the "incompatible
browser" error in IE (courtesy of MVP Mike Burgess):

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?] Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute" Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0;
Windows NT 5.0;)

Thanks, PA Bear! Norton Firewall browser privacy control was the problem.
