Is it possible to set up Vista mail to handle my hotmail account ( and even
my gmail accounts )?

Windows Mail will not handle HTTP mail, only POP3 and IMAP mail. Therefore
no Hotmail.

No Hotmail. But it will do Gmail because Gmail has free POP3 access.
You can also setup WinMail for your free AOL/AIM email because
they have free IMAP access.

The instructions are for Outlook Express, same difference.

My issue is that I can't even send a message to my hotmail account. Does
this mean that I can't send to anyone using my laptop with Vista? I want to
send emails to Hotmail. That's it! Will it work?
Oscar.

Why don't you use Windows Live Mail Desktop?
Works with Hotmail and your Windows Mail accounts.

Cal,
I think I heard that WLMD has advertisements that pop up or run in the
system. But I don't know if that will "solve" the problem. I guess I'm just
trying to send emails to hotmail accounts. I can receive all day long. Do
you think it will work? How do I set up something like that? Isn't there a
link to install, but only if it will solve the issue. Thanks, Cal.
Oscar.

I send mail all the time to hotmail accounts using my normal ISP and (e-mail address removed) address for the people.

You should be able to send to Hotmail recipients from WinMail.

mikey,
Thank you for your emaill. I guess I'm paranoid b/c I have a brand new
laptop with Vista and I can't send from my company account to my own hotmail
email... I can send no problem to gmail.
I have sent a test to my dad at homail. Hopefully he'll get it and reply.
We'll see.
T.x.!
Oscar.

You can get it here:

Yes, it does have advertisement, but they are in a rather slim bar at the far right
of the screen, and I find them completely unobtrusive.

I have no problems with either sending or receiving to other Hotmail accounts.

Gary,
Thanks for your email. Pardon my ignorance, but is "WinMail" the same as
Windows Mail on my new Vista operating system? Or is it more like "WinFax",
a product that can be purchased and used to receive faxes? I am not very
technologically savvy, as you all can tell. Sorry. Please advise.
Thanks!
Oscar.
PS. So far, it's not going through from my Windows Mail account on my new
laptop. Again, I can send to gmail, but not to my own hotmail account.
Someone please set me straight if I'm way off on something or I'm not getting
a topic or need a download or whatever. T.x.!

WinMail = Windows Mail (Vista's OE replacement)

Yes, WinMail is Geek-speak for Windows Mail. Note that
the executable (which is the file that runs the program) is
actually named "WinMail.exe".

Do you get an error message when you try to send from
your new laptop to a Hotmail address? If so, I'd like to see it.

Gary,
Thanks for your email. You and Cal are awesome!
Ok, no, I don't get an error message. I don't get the email returned. It
goes to my "sent" items. They're not even sitting in my "outbox". So,
that's why I'm concerned about other emails I might send to my clients who
have hotmail accounts.
I may install that sidebar thing, but only if it's going to solve the
problem. Thank you all in this forum!!!
Oscar.
