Hi! I am a seasoned office suite user (though by far not
an expert!) and here is what I would like to do-can anyone
help??

I create a cd rom for attendees at an annual conference
with the powerpoint presentations of the speakers at the
conference. I usually have the table of contents in a
word document for reference (so attendees can cross
reference the title of the talk with the title of the
files), but I would like to be able to click on the
speaker name or talk title, and have the powerpoint
presentation open.

I have been able to get this to work on my computer, but
once I take the cd to another computer with a different
drive letter (d vs. m, etc.) it doesn't work since the
hotlink uses a drive letter.

I have no experience with macros, so if this requires a
macro, any reference websites you know of would be greatly
appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance!!

Leigh

Hi Leigh,

We need to know which version of Word you have access to?

Right off the cuff, I'd say you need to:
- make sure all the files, including the document, are in the
same folder (or sub-folders to the document)
- use Insert/Hyperlink to create the links (this should use
relative paths to the document)

Hi-Thanks! I am using Office XP. Is there a way to
hyperlink the files without using a drive letter
designation?

thanks! Leigh

If all the files are in the same folder structure, then
Word should be doing this automatically. However, what you
may actually SEE on the page may still be an absolute path.

When creating the hyperlink (Insert/Hyperlink) you can
alter the display text, as well as the path (address).

I suggest you work with a set of test documents until you
find the proper combination of steps that will work. You
should also check in Tools/Options/General/Web
Options/Files and see if "Update links on save" is
activated. If it is, try turning it off.
