HotKey for use across a number of applications

I want to program a couple of Hot Keys or Function buttons to type some
standard phrases so I can use them within various applications (eg. notepad,
Word, IE, (Chat sites etc) simulators etc.)

Can it be done?

If so how - I'm a intermediate user OS XP Home and XP Professional

Of course. Get a macro or hotkey program. There are free ones as well as commercial ones. A good free one is MacroMaker, a
fantastic commercial one is HotkeyMaster.

If you get a macro program, you will record a macro by clicking the record button, then typing the text you want, then assigning the
macro to a hotkey. If you use a hotkey program, you will assign a hotkey to paste some text.

You could also try getting a program specifically designed to paste often used text (none come to mind, but there are some).
Alternately, you could use a clipboard management program which supports saving clipboard contents (the last one I used was
Clipboard Master-a long time ago). The best ones will provide a quick-access list that will let you paste a piece of text with a
couple of clicks.

Very easily. I use the free Autohotkey program from
www.autohotkey.com -- easy to use, with excellent documentation.

I learned of it in these Windows XP groups.
